In addition to the board, there are over a dozen active members of the MCS PTA. We are always looking for volunteers, whether for leadership positions, valuable members of our team, patrons of our passive fundraisers, or simply participants in one of our many events!
During the analysis performed at our officer's retreat, we found A LOT of opportunities to make our PTA a more deliberate and welcoming space. These included:
Our Turkey Trot, usually a joint event held at Cobb Stadium, will be at MCS school (fire road, weather permitting), giving us more freedom to personalize it to MCS!
Assigning our teen volunteers as babysitters to help us during event setup/breakdown and giving event volunteers badges or buttons to help them stand out.
Working with teachers to create kid-made decorations for events where possible.
Working with local businesses (PNSY, CMP) to create science kits for kiddos. Making conscious choices about where we spend money to put it back into our community; avoiding Amazon where possible.
Making adult friends is hard and speaking up at formal meetings can feel difficult! Come buy an ice cream and sit with us at Shain's, buy a coffee and hang with us at Meeting Grounds, or join us for drinks at Applebee's. Watch our Facebook for social opportunities!
Can't make it to a social event in person? Members are invited to join a private Facebook group where questions, coordination, and fun stuff is all on the table.
Strengths, Weaknesses, and Threats were more broad; public education and our teachers are facing more challenges than ever before. The mission of PTA is to make EVERY CHILD's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for ALL children. That means increasing diversity as well as advocating for families regardless of race, religion, family makeup, economic status, or otherwise.
All are welcome. Todos são bem-vindos. Todos son bienvenidos. Tous sont les bienvenus.
Two new officers with amazing ideas have given the MCS PTA new life and direction under our president's experienced guidance, but our biggest weakness is a lack of leadership within the organization. This is especially apparent because the former board, while still supporting as members and chairs, will be moving on to the middle school with their children in the 26/27 school year. While our main goal echoes the National PTA's, our primary focus this year will be to increase membership and leadership within the organization. The ambitious goals we've set for ourselves are as follows:
Increase active membership (those who attend meetings, voice opinions, etc.) by 10 members.
Increase leadership (those who chair or co-chair an event or volunteer for an officer or chair position) by 3 members.
Create documentation to set us up for future success, including a code of ethics, SOA requirements, etc.
